Fashion in 19th Century - Singapore


Introduction:

this gallery is held in National Museum Singapore. (level 2)

The purpose is to celebrate the creativity of Singapore society through time in the four Singapore living galleries, each with a lifestyle theme close to the hearts of Singaporeans.
The gallery is going to be held until 16 March 2014.

Description: 

Costumes worn by women in 19th century will be displayed as the gallery traces the changing roles of women from youths to homemakers and career women.
To have the idea of the shifting identities of Singapore women from the 1950s to the 1970s  and the changing social, economic and political roles of women.
Allowing in-depth understanding of the process on how various garments (Kebaya, Sari and Chiongsam) are made.
